In cooperation with aforementioned monsieur Thalhofer, Avignon develops the interactive multi-media show „bad news for bugs“ which premiers in Berlin at the multi-media conference Transmediale. The audience goes gaga and the manager of THE RESIDENTS invites Neoangin to open during their Germany tour. But Neoangin has a moment of megalomania and politely declines the offer.
Instead he rather goes back to Brighton to do some recording, but this time the magic is gone. Pilot Pirx is bored and easily distracted. The two cannot come up with anything good. After a few days they stop their endeavors and Neoangin returns to Berlin with half-finished songs. Nonetheless he offers the new material to the label Wonder. As expected they decline.
Briefly discouraged Neangin considers dissolving his music project (but how on earth can a one man band dissolve?) and during the Summer of 2002 he announces every show as the farewell show.
Neangin hits a low point at the show in Göttingen. The instant he sets foot on stage he gets a bloody nose and has to the a 10 minute break. Sitting around on the stage with a hanky pressed against his nose Jim cannot help but to contemplate about the point of all of this. The next day Neoangin and Nova Huta are riding the interregio train. To lighten up their bad moods they take turns playing their favorite songs from their youth on a portable keyboard. Turns out that practically all of those songs are by a band called the Cure. And just like that the idea of the Curecoverssingle is born.
And Neoangin finally finds a new recording home: Villa Kurella Studios in Berlin, with Norman Nitzsche at the mixing board. JIm intermixes fragments from Brighton with new sketches and concocts an untypically introverted album which provides an outlet to deal with the recent pessimistic mood. Without wasting much thought he publishes MUSIC TO HIDE AND SEEK –once again on his own. The album is released in November of 2002 without any PR.
